For Profit Making Nursing Homes
Nursing homes that are not operated by the profit motive appear to have fewer negligence cases than profit making elderly facilities.  Studies have indicated that this is due to more money being spent on staff and relevant training by the not for profit facilities.
Despite these disparities, a 2012 review discovered that five out of 29 patients randomly selected by the state for review, didn’t receive their drugs as prescribed by a physician.
Negligence cases cover a broad spectrum, ranging from not attending patients with bed sores, to sexual assault of a patient by a staff member.
Elders Deserve Respect and Dignity
There is no excuse in the 21st century to treat anyone with the disrespect that nursing homes and their staff appear to do to New York’s elders. They are paid to attend to the elderly’s needs, whether it is administering drugs on time or attending to the physical requirements of these individuals. Our elders should be treated with the respect and dignity they deserve.
A Personal Injury Claim Can Be Filed
Fortunately, family member who discover the abuse of their elderly loved one may be able to file a personal injury claim on behalf of the relative. These vulnerable people are often unable to complain or stand up for themselves. However, if there is any sign of abuse that has caused pain and suffering then the elderly person may be eligible for a compensation claim filed against the nursing home responsible for the abuse.
