Rear End Car Accident Collision in Duchess County

A news report on DailyFreeman.com stated that the first vehicle to be hit in the rear end car accident was stationary in the southbound lane, as the vehicle’s driver was about to turn onto Middle Road. A second car moving in the same direction failed to come to a stop in time and rear ended the stationary car. The second car was driving so fast that it moved the car into the path of traffic that was using the northbound lane. At this point the vehicle was hit by a third vehicle, which caused it to spin around in the middle of the road. Four people were injured in the accident, one of them seriously, they were taken to two different hospitals.

This incident highlights the need not to follow too closely or tailgate while driving on busy highways in particular, as it makes stopping in an emergency far too dangerous. A rear end accident collision is one of the most common reasons for an auto accident in New York State. Apart from faulty brakes, a likely common reason for a rear end car accident collision is distractive driving. This is becoming all too familiar on state and national highways. Activities like using a mobile device, such as a cell phone, can cause a driver to take his or her eyes off the road for a number of seconds and in no time at all a collision has occurred. The passengers and driver of the damaged vehicle will be trying to find out who was at fault. If they are entitled, they may be able to file a claim for compensation by hiring a New York personal injury attorney.

According to collision data compiled by the Institute for Traffic Safety Management and Research and issued by Duchess County from 2009 to 2011, driving too close to a vehicle was one of the three top causes of vehicle accidents. The other two common causes were driving at an unsafe speed and distracted driving. During the three-year period when the study was carried, accidents due to driving too close rose each year.

Car collisions occur on a regular basis on the state’s roads. They can result not only in vehicle and other property damage, but also multiple injuries to the victims. These could be car drivers, passengers and unsuspecting pedestrians minding their own business on a sidewalk. Some of the worst accidents that cause multiple car crashes are when a car driver is distracted and fails to reduce speed when approaching a car in front that has either significantly reduced speed or has stopped. This can cause a chain reaction because as the second car failed to indicate his or her intentions then any car following will fail to take action as well. All car drivers need to be driving at a safe speed and not too close to any vehicle moving in front of them so as to avoid rear end car accident collisions.

Rear end car accident collisions are serious events especially if excessive speed caused the delayed reaction and subsequent crash. Many lives can be affected, whether injuries are serious or a life has unexpectedly been lost.

In many cases negligence is seen as the cause of a rear end car accident collision as the driver failed to use reasonable care while driving on a public highway. This gives a good reason for injured victims to file a claim for compensation as long as the accident was in no way their fault.
