Truck Crash Causes Injuries on New York Bridge

Many drivers tend to be naturally cautious when they are close to a large truck anywhere on the state highways. There are instances when truck drivers do not follow the rules of the road.

Last week when a Pennsylvania truck driver was charged with driving under the influence (DWI) after his tractor-trailer collided with a car being driven by a New Jersey woman on a New York bridge.

The truck driver was driving along a highway when he lost control of the truck and crossed the median on the bridge and crashed into the New Jersey woman’s car. The woman was rushed to the local hospital to undergo treatment for internal injuries, as well as those to the head and leg.

Trucks are particularly dangerous when involved in an accident as they are so much heavier than any other vehicles. As a result, damage to both life and property can be devastating.

As a result of this recent truck accident, the truck driver was charged with possessing a controlled substance, and vehicular assault. Some could argue that this incident was quite minor compared to those truck accidents that cause multiple fatalities.

The U.S. Department of Transportation has reported recently that truck and semitrailer accidents cause around 89,000 injuries annually and 5,000 fatalities.

Due to their massive size and weight a truck can cause severe injuries. This includes spinal cord damage, brain injury, loss of limbs and internal injuries, including organ trauma and damage to the neck and back. These are injuries that a victim may not fully recover from and could last for the rest of the person’s life. Serious injuries often mean long stays in hospital, long recovery periods and financial hardship.

Once a truck accident takes place, the owner and the truck insurer are often at the scene of the accident in a short period of time. They get there in such a hurry to investigate and provide the best legal defence for their client.

Sometimes, an accident can be caused by a driver’s inexperience.  At other times, the accident occurs as a result of poor maintenance and could be due to worn tire tread, faulty steering or defective brakes.

Many truck companies will fight aggressively defend civil lawsuits in court.
